SINK OR SWIM – film screening

Bertrand, an unemployed family man having a midlife crisis, joins an amateur male synchronised swimming team in this heart-warming comedy by Gilles Lellouche. Bertrand is not the only one in crisis, and a bond forms amongst the middle-aged men as they tackle their demons by committing to the most unlikely of public acts. Don’t miss this energetic comedy with a feel-good 1980’s soundtrack exclusively screening on the 10th of January at the Irish Film Institute.

Ailbhe Ní Bhriain Inscriptions of an Immense Theatre

Temple Gallery and Studio’s winter exhibition will feature a film installation from Irish artist Ailbhe Ní Bhriain. Inscriptions of an Immense Theatre uses imagery captured at a number of diverse locations to explore the ideas of heritage and the legacy of empire.

Ní Bhriain is known for her powerful and immersive multi-screen video installations. For this thought-provoking and at times disturbing work, Ní Bhriain combines film with heavy use of computer generated imagery to produce a piece pokes at the sometimes invisible constructs which support the cultural and historical narratives of Western society.

Place: Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, 5-9 Temple Bar

Fergus Daly

Fergus Daly is an upcoming, Irish indie-rock artist. Approaching the eagerly-awaited release of his debut album (winter 2018), his music videos have over half a million views to-date. Today he’s playing at Whelan’s upstairs venue.
