Celebrating Cultures, Promoting Integration
Every year Condé Nast Traveler asks readers to decide on their favourite cities around the world, in its Readers’ Choice Awards Survey.
In 2018, Condé Nast Traveler has just published the 10 friendliest cities in the world. There are three Irish cities that made it into the top 10 friendliest cities list, with Cork in third place, Galway at number five, and Dublin coming in eighth place.
Condé Nast Traveler is a luxury and lifestyle travel magazine published by Condé Nast. The magazine has won 25 National Magazine Awards. Therefore, being voted as top 10 in this magazine is highly convincing.
The top 10 friendliest cities around the world, according to the 2018 Condé Nast survey, are:
- San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
- Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
- Cork, Ireland
- Queenstown, New Zealand
- Galway, Ireland
- Puebla, Mexico
- Adelaide, Australia
- Dublin, Ireland
- Victoria, BC, Canada
- Chiang Mai, Thailand
The requirements of being chosen are, “Do you feel welcome when you come to the city?”, “Are the people in the city enthusiastic to you?” and “Is the city “easy” to understand?” etc.
It has been chosen as the third in the Top 10 friendliest cities around the world. Condé Nast said that Cork is a pleasant place for people to take a rest. It has advised visitors to Cork to set aside some time to browse the local art galleries and load up on goodies at the English Market.
Ranking number five, Galway has its special charm. It advised visitors to make time to snap some photos of the Spanish Arch and the Claddagh at daytime. When it gets dark, nights are reserved for sipping Guinness with the friendly crowds.
For the number eight, Dublin is a small capital but there is everything. It is suggested that visitors to Dublin should slow down to a stroll through St Stephen’s Green, or linger over a meal at one of the city’s buzy new restaurants. Or they can enjoy their own time in Temple Bar as well.
After being chosen by Condé Nast, Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “I am delighted to see three of our cities appear in the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler survey of friendly cities around the globe.”
