Celebrating Cultures, Promoting Integration
Are you missing an interesting political debate and discussion during your time in Ireland? Does the political climate of Latin America fascinate you? And are you interested in indigenous and minority rights? Then why not check out the Latin American Solidarity Centre in Drumcondra on Dublin’s north side.
The Latin American Solidarity Centre (LASC) is an organisation made up of individuals who believe in the power of social change in Latin America and Ireland. By focusing on political and economic injustices, the LASC encourages the values of democracy and participation in Latin American politics. Specific matters which the LASC is concerned about include the discrimination of the rights of indigenous groups; the effects of multinationals and private companies on ordinary Latin American citizens; government sanctioned military and police violence; the influence of foreign governments in Latin American affairs and the growth of neo-liberal economics and politics.
The LASC aims to make change through a number of activities. These include educational courses and workshops which focus on Latin American politics, as well as public debates and talks about the region. The centre also organises many solidarity campaigns. More recreational activities include Latin American film screenings and festivals, as well as pub quiz fundraisers and trips to ‘Club Sandino’.
The LASC’s address is ’40 lower Drumcondra road’. For contact information on the LASC, as well as news about upcoming activities, see below.
